What were the names of the residents of the Baima house circa 1909? My grandparents, John and Marianna Reano lived in the cabin next to Company House No. 75.

Richard: Bernardo a and Andrina Baima-Rughet raised their children in Newcastle. Joseph, the oldest son was norn in Piano-Audi, Italy. The others were Peter, Adolph, Valentino, John (my father) Mary and Antonette. Bernardo died at age 47. Andrina remarried Antono Pistono. They moved to Chelan amd worked on a farm for a while. Not sure what precipitated the return to Newcastle. Adolph lived in the house until approximately 1980. The property was then sold to Pam and Gary Lee. The house was made tenable by the Lee’s it was rented until around 2022. The property is being developed into single family housing. The Baima house however, has been moved to a dedicated Newcastle Park site. The developer was responsible for the move and doing some repairs to the structure. Along with the original house, the “honeymoon suite” and 2 out buildings were also moved and preserved. The Newcastle Historical Society hopes to be setting up displays depicting the coal mining history of the area.
